MoHFW Govt of HP: HRP App Training

High-Risk Pregnancy (HRP) Initiative: Tech-Driven Maternal Care

In collaboration with the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of Himachal Pradesh, Dr. Suraj Dhirwani spearheaded the training and field deployment of a groundbreaking High-Risk Pregnancy (HRP) tracking application. This pilot project was engineered to solve one of healthcare’s toughest challenges: delivering life-saving diagnostics in the remote, low-connectivity terrain of the Himalayan foothills.

Solving for the ‘Last Mile’

The HRP app was deployed on tablets for ASHA and ANM frontline workers, who often travel vast distances with limited resources. Dr. Suraj Dhirwani’s role was critical in ensuring the technology translated into real-world results. He focused on:

  • User-Centric Design for Low-Resource Settings: Ensuring the app remained functional in “offline-first” environments where network stability was nonexistent.
  • Algorithmic Diagnosis: The app utilised intelligent logic to assist workers in diagnosing high-risk factors, scheduling critical follow-ups, and coordinating emergency ambulance services.
  • End-to-End Service Delivery: From creating training modules to physically training the ground teams in remote districts, he ensured the technology was adopted effectively by non-technical users.

Measurable Impact & Research

The project was a resounding success, leading to a significant reduction in Infant Mortality (IMR) and Maternal Mortality (MMR) in the pilot regions. The clinical efficacy and technical deployment of the app were further validated through a published research paper, marking it as a benchmark for Digital health solutions for the detection of high-risk pregnancies in Public Health.

Key Learnings for Health-IT Strategy:

  • Technical Resilience: Developing “lite” software that runs efficiently on mid-range hardware with zero-to-low latency.
  • Governmental UX: Designing interfaces that bridge the gap between complex medical protocols and frontline worker usability.
  • Scalable Public Health: Understanding the ground realities of large-scale government service delivery and data-driven policymaking.

Skills:

  • Technical: Offline-First App Strategy, Low-Resource UX, Health Informatics, Machine Learning in Healthcare, Tablet-based EMR.
  • Strategic: Public Health Policy, Government Consultancy, Last-Mile Delivery, IMR/MMR Reduction.
  • Soft Skills: Technical Training, Stakeholder Management, Field Operations, User Empathy.
