Why is it that only today we are proud to be Indian,
And the other days we do deeds that makes the world detest Indians
When we remain friends even after friendship day
When we remain brothers even after raksha Bandhan,
Why is it that our flag is never our Dp again before 26th January?
We forward jokes and senti messages all year round.
But patriotic messages only twice a year.
It’s because the other times we are too busy to think of our mother land, and these 2 days it’s fashionable to change your Dp and talk patriotic.
Patriotism is not the mere love for your country.
A patriot is one who thinks of the welfare of his country and countrymen.
Patriotism is also the desire to compete with other nations – no not just cricket, but cleanliness, hygiene, literacy, standard of living, GDP, mortality rates.
It is patriotic to say that my country is the safest for women.
Can you proudly say it?
Probably a guy in the Taliban will say it more proudly than you can. (Google the stats yourself)
Can you proudly say my country / city is the cleanest, well planned, most developed?
Then what are we proud about?
And what are we celebrating?
Just another day, another excuse to forward messages on social media and messengers?
What’s the you say?
Independence? Freedom?
From…. ?
British regime. Foreign rule?
Really?
Are you absolutely sure your actions and words are not controlled or determined by any Western influences even today?
Freedom?
Freedom of what?
Let’s see you voice your true opinion about a politician on Facebook.
Let’s see you let your daughter roam alone in some parts of the city.
Do we even exhibit an iota of the valour and courage exhibited by our beloved freedom fighters.
Even I don’t have the freedom keep writing on. There’s a word limit!
We took 15 years just to change our government.
We changed in May. 5 months ago.
Ask yourself – how much have you changed after the day?
You forwarded a dozen messages before and after.
Praising. Cribbing. Expecting 1 man to change a country populated with more than a billion people.
But not even 1% of those billion want to change themselves.
Be the change you want to see.
Don’t just change your status or profile pic.
Change the way you talk and think.
And then change what you do.
I assure you India will feel different and new.
Jai Hind.
Vande Mataram.
– Dr. Suraj A. Dhirwani
an Indian whose nationality or feeling of Patriotism is not determined by the date on the calendar. It’s ubiquitous as the corruption in this country and as constant as my blood group.
